In regard to healing and wholeness, the Western approach often erroneously disconnects every part of a person from every other part. The spirit is separated from the soul / mind and the soul from the body. Unless there is a direct relationship, even the parts of the body are isolated from each other.

But did you know that the spirit (sometimes thought of as the subconscious) knows EVERY word and event that has occurred throughout your life, and that trapped emotions can take up residence in your body, sometimes causing sickness and disease even many years later? Even secular statistics indicate that as much as 90% of all sickness and disease is emotionally based. The same thing occurs in reverse. Physical ailments can effect the soul / mind creating challenges for the spirit.

In this short article, I introduce healing and wholeness God’s way and how we can partner together with Him to meet your needs in every area of life. Healing and wholeness ministry is about partnering in union with God for life.

What is Shalom?
The “Old Testament” (Tanakh) of the Bible introduces us to the word “shalom”. Shalom is a Hebrew word and concept that can be expressed as “nothing missing, nothing broken”. The idea of shalom is wholeness in every area of life; spirit, soul, and body as they are all intimately interconnected.

This is why you might hear someone say “shalom” when greeting or leaving another person. In both cases the hearer is receiving a blessing of goodwill, health, healing, and wholeness – all wrapped up into one word.

Adam and Eve were created whole, in the image of God, with “nothing missing” and “nothing broken”: They were created in shalom: wholeness.

In the Bible, the Hebrew word “shalom” is often translated into the English word “peace”; as in enjoying “peace” and wholeness with God rather than being misaligned in some particular area of life.

You will keep in perfect peace (shalom)
    those whose minds (hearts) are steadfast,
    because they trust in you.
Isaiah 26:3

The fall of man led to separation from God and vulnerability to the devil.
Oppression (lack of wholeness) is from the devil (Acts 10:38). It was by the devil working through Adam that death (separation from God) passed to all mankind.

Sadly, with the fall of Adam and Eve, our perfect unity and shalom that the Divine God of the Universe desires for all of His people, was broken.

By one man (Adam) sin entered into the world, and death by sin;
and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Romans 5:12

The devil is a thief, destroyer, and murderer. He roams the earth seeking out whom he can inflict and destroy. His purpose is to cause death, destruction, and division; particularly between God and His people.

Yeshua makes shalom / wholeness possible
Thankfully, shalom, or “wholeness” for God’s people, was made possible again (restored) by the Messiah, Yeshua, when He defeated the devil, sin, and death and then made a way for God’s people to reunite with our Heavenly Father.

For God has made Yeshua who knew no sin to be (the) sin (offering) for us, so that we could be made the righteousness of (be made right with) God in and through Him (Yeshua). 2 Corinthians 5:21

 For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him (Yeshua),
and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth
or things in Heaven, by making peace / Shalom through his blood, 
shed on the cross. Colosians 1:19-20

The Bible affirms over and over, and over again, that the same shalom (peace with God / wholeness) that Adam and Eve surrendered, and that Yeshua came to restore, is available for us again today.

Peace / Shalom I leave with you; my peace / wholeness I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

Yeshua “healed ALL” and showed us the way
To demonstrate His desire and power to restore His people to their Heavenly Father for His glory, Matthew 4:23 says that Jesus / Yeshua went about…preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom, and HEALING all manner of sickness (spirit, soul, body) and all manner of disease among the people.

Notice, in this verse, that Yeshua healed “all manner of disease”. Of course, the word “all” is very important as is the word “disease”. In this verse, the word “all” means just what it says: ALL.

While the word “all” in the verse above is self-explanatory (all means ALL), it is important to note that the exact same Greek word that is translated as “disease” here is also translated as “sickness” and “infirmity” both here (in other translations), and in other verses.

In other words, in this verse we see that Yeshua healed EVERY issue of EVERY sort that the people who came to Him were experiencing. This means that He ministered both inner healing and physical healing, of every kind, to ALL who were in need. We see this reality exemplified ALL through His ministry.

Yeshua made it possible for ALL people, both then and now, to experience “shalom” / wholeness in every area of life.

Yeshua still heals today just as He always has.
Just as Yeshua made it possible for the oppressed to experience inner healing and physical healing when He walked the earth, TODAY Yeshua still heals those who love God and trust Him.

Health, healing, and wholeness (shalom) is a provision in the Kingdom of God that Yeshua has made available for YOU!

For God has made Yeshua who knew no sin to be (the) sin (offering) for us, so that we could be made the righteousness of (be made right with) God in and through Him (Yeshua).
2 Corinthians 5:21

When evening came, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. He drove out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick, so that what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: He Himself took our weaknesses and carried our diseases.
Matthew 8:16-17

Go and make disciples: Heal
Near the end of His time on earth, in both Mark 16:18 and Matthew 28:18-20 we see Yeshua instructing His disciples to minister healing, wholeness, and other needs, in the same manner that He did. Like everything else He said, that instruction is as applicable today as it was the day He said it.

After His ascension, we see Yeshua’s disciples going forth, representing Him, just as He had instructed; preaching and teaching the Kingdom of God including ministering in both inner healing AND physical healing just as they were taught.

In some cases, those in need found healing just from the handkerchiefs of those who followed after Yeshua.

So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.  
Acts 19:12

God’s Healing and wholeness IS available for YOU today just as it was for them back then
There is nowhere in the Bible that indicates that God has changed, and no longer desires or offers healing for His people.

However, there are numerous Scriptures that express just the opposite; that our loving Creator heals His people today, of every oppresion, just as He has before. He does this by various means according to His timing.

In support of those Scriptures there is also an infinite number of testimonies of God healing His people in these days.

Few earnestly seek after the healing provision that Yeshua has made possible for us
Along with divine healing, there is a place for natural healing methods and modalities for the spirit, soul, and body: These are part of God’s provision for healing as well.

But sadly, just like many other things, God’s provision in the area of medicine and medical treatment has been perverted. Today “medicine” has been largely corrupted to mean synthetic, chemical laden pills, potions, and procedures that are mostly administered by people who are not only agnostic, but often even adverse to anything that has anything to do with our Creator. And of course there is always the surgeons answer to just “cut it out” and the psychiatrist’s answer to medicate it.

It is sad to see and watch. People suffer and even die while enthusiastically embracing these godless ways of the world while neglecting, or often times even REFUSING to learn how to earnestly seek after God and His ways for REAL healing.

It can be a process
God loves His creation, and that includes you. He wants the best for you including health, healing, and wholeness in spirit, soul, body, relationships, and even every area of life. But healing usually doesn’t just happen. In most cases, it is incumbent upon us to take action which usually includes making changes.

So ultimately the question is are you going to embrace God’s ways or man’s ways? Because God’s ways are higher than man’s ways they usually need to be learned.

Healing can be quite a process. But as Apostle Paul said, you are to “work out your own salvation”, by entering into union with God through faith, love, diligence, and persistence. In the course of our healing and wholeness ministry it has been a blessing to see many healings of God’s people in spirit, soul, and body.
