“Who and What is the Remnant”

Summary

Without a basic understanding of Biblical Israel, it is impossible to understand who the Bible is referring to when it references the Remnant. But its important to differentiate Biblical Israel from the current political body in the Middle East that goes by the same name.

So after addressing the issues above, this teaching provides a Biblical foundation for answering the questions of “Who and What is the Remnant” along with explaining God’s plan for the Remnant in these days and the days ahead.

I also touch upon the concepts of dominion and authority, the scattering and restoration of Biblical Israel, and the role of the Messiah Yeshua in restoring the Remnant.

00:01 Today we’re talking about a subject of particular importance to us here at Chosen Glory.

Who and What is the Remnant? It’s impossible to answer these questions without some basic understanding of Biblical Israel. When I say Biblical Israel, I want to make it really clear that I’m not talking about the political body that’s currently residing in the Middle East.

The current political body in the Middle East that identifies as Israel is not the Israel of the Bible. But understanding the Remnant without understanding at least a little bit about who Biblical Israel is would be kind of like trying to describe a car without mentioning the engine or the tires. A basic understanding of who Biblical Israel is, is critically important in understanding the Remnant.

When identifying Biblical Israel, most people begin with Abraham. The basis for that is very reasonable. They use Scriptures like Romans 4:1:

What then shall we say that Abraham our forefather
according to the flesh has found?

Others might say that Israel began with Abraham’s grandson, Jacob because in Genesis 32:28 the God of Israel changed Jacob’s name from Jacob to Israel.

But let me give you another perspective: My perspective. Let’s say that your last name was Jones. And let’s say that you wanted to investigate the Jones family history. In that case would you trace the Jones family name back to your grandfather and stop there? No, Of course not. You would take the Jones family name back as far as you could in order to learn as much as you could. Where did the Jones family came from? Where did they go? What kind of things were they involved in?

It’s on this basis that if you trace the genealogy of Abraham back through his son Isaac, his grandson Jacob, and then continue on back in the Bible as far as you can, which you can easily do, then you can easily trace the family line of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob all the way back to Adam.

And so for me, while Abraham was the one who was called out into the Abrahamic Covenant, and while Elohim may have identified Abraham as the chosen of the bloodline, if you trace the family line back from Abraham then it very quickly leads to Adam.

And so if Jacob and Abraham are Israelites, which is undisputed, then to me that means that Adam is an Israelite too because he is clearly of the same bloodline as Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

04:54 There are numerous implications to this that exceed the scope of this teaching. But this provides a foundation for today’s discussion.

For now it’s enough to remember that the Creator created a people group that He gave authority to take dominion over the earth (Gen. 1:26), and that He later identified that people group as Israel.

But instead of taking dominion and authority over the earth as they were instructed, that first man (Adam) actually surrendered His authority to the one who he was supposed to take authority over: the adversary, the devil.

In this way, the Scriptures indicate that Adam committed treason. But in Genesis 3:15 we see that the Most High provided a remedy for that treason.

Elohim already had a plan for the restoration of the offspring of Adam and Eve (Israel). That remedy was the Messiah Yeshua.

But there’s a whole lot of time, a whole lot of distance, and a whole lot of water under the bridge between Genesis 3:15 and when the Messiah enters the story in the Renewed Covenant (New Testament).

The Tanakh, Old Testament, records that the Creator continuously tried to call Israel back into repentance, but Israel continuously defied Him and chose what was right in their own eyes.

While there was some movement in the right direction; overall, Israel continued to move away from the Most High more and more while violating the covenant that they had made with Him.

Finally, after millennia of pleading, and talking, and trying to reason with them, Elohim (God) gave Israel what they wanted.

07:54 He not only allowed Israel to leave the land that He had provided for them, but He helped them out the door so to speak. Ezekiel 36:19 says I (Heavenly Father) scattered them along the heathen. They were dispersed through the countries according to their way and according to the doings. I judged them.

So back to the question of “who and what is the Remnant”: Earlier I mentioned how there is no way to understand who the Remnant is without at least a very basic and general understanding of Israel in the Bible.

At this point I’ve covered that and so now we’re going to move forward and address the Remnant.

The definition of the word Remnant is “a remainder or part left over from the whole”. It carries with it the idea of survivors. A part left over from the whole; why? Because they are the survivors; the ones who held out, the holdouts, you might say.

Alright, so with that in mind, remember the Scripture that I just read, Ezekiel 36:19? Here it is again: The Elohim of Israel said, I scattered them among the heathen and they were dispersed through the countries according to their way and according to their doings, I judged them.

Well, in Isaiah 10: 21 the Prophet Isaiah says a Remnant will return to Him (Elohim), the Remnant of Jacob, they will return to the Mighty Elohim, the Mighty God.

Ezekiel 36:24 then says I (Elohim) will take you from among the heathen and gather you out from all of the countries. And I will bring you back to your own land.

And so while the Scriptures do say that due to their disobedience, and primarily their disloyalty, Israel was scattered amongst the world, the Most High clearly says that He will eventually restore Israel and bring Israel back into our own land.

Hosea 1:11 says the sons of Judah and the sons of Israel will be gathered together and they will appoint for themselves a leader and they will go up from the land: For great will be the day of Israel. Praise God.

11:47 So just as a very quick summary of what we have covered so far remember that the Most High created Adam and Eve. They were both in the garden. They were both given authority by the Most High and told to take dominion. The primary responsibility for doing that fell upon Adam. But then Adam surrendered that authority and dominion to the adversary. Adam’s disloyalty created a separation between the Creator and man.

But then the Most High created a plan, a way for that relationship to be restored: That plan was the Messiah Yeshua.

Even a the Creator created a way for the relationship between Himself and man to be restored, Israel defied Him. They had their own minds. They did what was right in their own eyes. And finally after millennia of trying to woo them back to Him. Elohim finally said “if that’s what you want, then just go”. And so He helped them out the door.

But along with the other Prophets in the Tanach (OT), Ezekiel says that some day the relationship between the Creator and Israel will be restored.

And so, what we know is, the Renewed Covenant (NT) records the beginning of that restoration process.

That is a large part of the reason that Yeshua steps into history: To restore the relationship and life back to you that the Most High God wants you to have and live: The life that Adam originally experienced.

Romans 5:17 says For if by the transgression of the one (referring to Adam) death reigned through Adam, much more those who received the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness will reign in (this) life through one Yeshua Messiah.

It’s a beautiful Scripture.

14:32 It’s exciting. It’s encouraging. It’s inspiring.

By the transgression of one (Adam) that first man relinquished the authority that he had been given in Genesis 1:26 to the adversary.

But then Romans 5:17 says For if by the transgression of the one (referring to Adam) death reigned through Adam, much more those who received the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness will reign in (this) life through one Yeshua Messiah.

Likewise, 1 Corinthians 15:45 says it is written, the first man Adam became a living soul. The last Adam, Yeshua, became a life giving spirit.

See, that is what He came to do. Yeshua came to provide you with the life giving spirit. The same spirit that was in Him and with the first man Adam.

Oh, it’s so exciting! I hope that you will grab on to this because it’s such an amazing, amazing message. 1 Corinthians 15:57 says thanks be to Elohim who gave us the victory through our Master Yeshua the Messiah.

16:19 The Creator could have left us wandering. He could have left us alone. But He didn’t. He made a way for us to be restored to Himself.

And so it was under this umbrella, this idea, this paradigm, this covering, that Yeshua went about fulfilling His mission here on earth.

He had several things that He wanted to accomplish. But restoring Israel back to her Father was one of His primary objectives.

In Matthew 15:24 Yeshua said “I am not sent but to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” As if to say, the reason I was sent was to restore Israel. I haven’t been sent to other people. I have only been sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

Of course He does say elsewhere, and other portions of the Scriptures say that all who want to join Him are welcome and encouraged to do so.

But nevertheless, Yeshua says that was His purpose that not only was THAT His mission but that He would also commission His Apostles and disciples to do the same thing.

In Matthew 10:5-8 we read “These 12 apostles Yeshua sent out after instructing them. He said do not go in the way of the heathens and do not enter any city of the Samaritans. But rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

18:20 It’s the exact same thing that He told them HE was purposed to accomplish. He told them “as you go preach saying the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, and cast out demons. Freely you have received; freely you give”.

YOU have been commissioned in the exact same way. We don’t all have all of the giftings that the Apostles had. Nevertheless, you DO have an important part to play in the gathering of the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

So, in Romans 9:25-27 we read specifically who that Remnant is.

As He says to Isaiah, I will call those who were not my people (He is referring to lost Biblical Israel), again He says I will call those who were not My people, My people.

That’s Romans 9.25. And it’s a quote from the prophet Isaiah. “And I will say to her who was not beloved. Now you are beloved. Verse 26 and it shall be that in that place where it was said to them you are not my people that you will be called sons of the living God.” HalleluYah!

Verse 27, Isaiah cries out concerning Israel. Though the number of the sons of Israel is like the sand of the sea. It is the REMNANT who will be saved. For the Eternal One will execute His Word on the, earth. He’ll do it thoroughly and quickly.

20:55 Praise His name. It is the Remnant of Israel who will be saved. Although Israel numbers as much as the sand of the sea, it is only a subset of Israel, the Remnant, the survivors, a small group within Israel that will be saved. Hallelujah.

Rom. 11:1-5
I say then, God has not rejected His people, has He? May it never be! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.  2 God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel?  3 “Lord, they have killed Your prophets, they have torn down Your altars, and I alone am left, and they are seeking my life.”  4 But what is the divine response to him? “I have kept for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”  5 In the same way then, there has also come to be at the present time a REMNANT according to God’s gracious choice.

23:56 Apostle Paul is saying that just as there were 7000 that He had preserved back in the day of Elijah, in the exact same way there is a Remnant, a subset of Israel, today who will not bend a knee and who will manifest the grace and glory of the Most High God.

I believe that that’s you. I believe that you are a part of that Remnant that is being chosen; called upon to manifest God’s grace and glory in these days.

So as we close today, I’d like to share the portion of Scripture that this ministry, Chosen Glory is based upon: It’s Isaiah 43:3-7.

Isaiah 43:5-7
“Do not fear, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the East, And gather you from the West. 6 “I will say to the North, ‘Give them up!’ And to the South, ‘Do not hold them back. ’Bring My sons from afar and My daughters from the ends of the earth, 7 Everyone who is called by My name, and whom I have created for My glory, whom I have formed, even whom I have made. ”You are my witnesses” declares the Eternal, and My servant whom I have CHOSEN.“

You have been chosen to manifest the glory of God, the Most High, in these days, in this hour, at this time, for His purposes. Praise God.

There is no higher calling in all of the earth in all of time.

The Remnant. That’s what we’re talking about. Today you have been handpicked by the Eternal: Chosen for His glory.

So in conclusion, who and what is the Remnant?

26:49 The Remnant is a subset of the “Israel of God” (Galatians 6:16) who are being called in from every corner of the earth to represent Him, in these days and the days ahead, for His glory.

Praise His name. There is no higher calling. This is exemplified in the mission statement for our ministry. The mission of Chosen glory is:

To embrace, encourage, and empower the Remnant: Those chosen by the Most High for His glory

Hallelujah. This is you. You, you were written about. It’s all about you manifesting and living in His glory.

It’s available to you if you desire it. If you align with Him. If you pursue Him.

I’m going to repeat this verse again because Its such a beautiful verse:

Thanks be to God who gives us the victory
through our Master Yeshua Messiah. Hallelujah.
1 Corinthians 15:57

As you can see, He won’t leave you abandoned. He won’t give you a mission, a task, a job, a responsibility and then say okay now go do it on your own.

As you release yourself to Him He empowers you. You decrease and He increases as you align with Him. He empowers you to fulfill everything that He has for you: More than you can possibly imagine.

This is who the Remnant is. This is who you are called to be. This is who I pray you become as you release yourself to Him, align with Him, co-labor with Him, and become one with the Divine, the Most High.

It’s all in the book. Praise His name. It’s all there for you. Praise God. It’s such an exciting message. I hope you embrace it.

And by the way, if you are sensing the call to come out of the world’s ways in order to step up and take your place as part of the Remnant of the “One New Man”, but you are struggling in certain areas, click here to learn more about mentoring for the Remnant.
